Prepping with the Faraday Cage - Solar Flares, EMPs, Credit Card Skimming, Radiation Protection.

A Faraday Cage can protect you and your valuables. At Superesse we have incorporated this idea into a handkerchief. We use nickle/copper ripstop fabric developed by Faraday Defense. We've borrowed the following information them and wanted to share it with you. Below are excerpts from faradaydefense.com

WHAT ARE PREPPERS?  WHAT IS THE POINT?

Preppers and Survivalists are just that: Prepared individuals who are willing to invest in their future survival.

While there is a lot of controversy and apparent lack of need for this sort of thing these days, there are few strong points to consider:

1. We can and should never take anything for granted.  Wars happen, Diseases happen, Droughts happen, Bad weather happens, etc. etc.  Being prepared is not a bad thing when a small investment may be a life & death decision in hindsight.  Hindsight is always 20/20.

2. Our sources of food and water are dependent on the delivery system of our society in many cases.  Specifically supermarket, city water systems, etc. bring us our vital nutrients.  These items are largely dependent on the nations electrical grid which if severely threatened or taken down would take down these vital delivery system within days.

3. Our nation was built as a country indivisible under God.  God blessed this country with a beginning set of strong values and talented individuals as founding fathers who believed in this country's freedom, grit, enterprise, and future.  They also believed in its people, who at the time grew this country through innovation before electricity was even invented.  They knew how to shoot, hunt, grow food, build business and with God's blessing built the wonderful USA.

While prepping is not practical for everyone, it is wise to determine: What are you willing to sacrifice for not prepping?

EMP - WHAT IS AN EMP EXPLOSION?

In short, EMP is a burst of electromagnetic energy. An EMP may take place as a radiated electric, magnetic field or conducted electrical current depending on it's source. Sources for EMP may be natural or man-made.

EMP is an acronym derived from the commonly accepted term: "electromagnetic pulse".

The interference caused by an EMP is damaging to electronic equipment, and at higher energy levels a powerful EMP strike such as lightning can cause significant damage to electrical components as well as building structures.

EMP's inherent damaging aspects have been used to create EMP weapons. These weapons are usually of nuclear or non-nuclear variety. Many world governments as well as people around the world are gaining knowledge on these devices as the vulnerability to EMP attacks becomes more evident.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF A SOLAR FLARE?

A solar flare is basically a large release of energy from the Sun.  The flare is often followed by a large coronnal mass ejection, or release of a large particle cloud comprised of electrons, ion, and atoms.
These large formations typically reach the earth within a couple days (short notice!) and with direct impact to an electronically-dependent society, have the potential to wreak havoc on an unprotected electric grid.
The world has encountered many such Solar Flares over the centuries, but fortunately the developed (electronically dependent) nations have not encountered a direct hit (due in part to the relatively short existence of electricity on this planet). In general, concerns are mounting in the scientific community that a solar superstorm could be a devastating phenomenon to our society as it stands.

On July 23, 2012, a massive, and potentially damaging, solar superstorm (solar flare, coronal mass ejection, solar EMP) barely missed Earth, according to NASA. There is an estimated 12% chance of a similar event occurring between 2012 and 2022.

SKIMMING - WHAT IS IT? DOES IT REALLY HAPPEN?

Skimming is the term used for "identity-theft" which, in the past, has always meant credit-card fraud or the like.  This involves a thief obtaining access to a credit card and running it through a device that electronically captures your information.  This information is then used adversely or criminally sold.

Of late, skimming is often performed through hacking and unsecured wi-fi breaches.  Mobile devices, tablets, and laptops left in unsecured wi-fi mode are susceptible to prying eyes and damaging consequences.

Today's society runs off mobile networks and free wi-fi networks with constant user device interaction with these networks, but often the understandable lack-of-discipline to protect devices against damaging threats.

Devices not used but still connected to unsecured networks are left vulnerable and let's face it: It's hard to remember to turn Wi-fi off every time, or to turn our device off after use.

In addition, as technology advances, so do skimming methods.  It is wise to protect all cards with magnetic strips (ie credit cards), electronics, and chip-embedded items to be safe. These items include ID Cards, Credit Cards, Passports, Cellphones, Tablets, Laptops, Computers, and more.
